Dirty Dozen Challenge Time

It's the 20th of the month so that means it is time for another Dirty Dozen challenge. Diane (Cookiestamper) was our host this month and here is what she threw down:
Focus: Inside and Out. We were to decorate not only the front of a card but also the inside and the envelope as well.
Required Element: patriotic in some fashion whether colors, sentiments, images, ect
Restricted Element: no ribbon allowed!

Here is my card...I have to say this was so fun to create and I love the final outcome. The truck is a new stamp by Printworks, isn't it great?? It comes without the sentiment, btw. I love the vintage feel of it and I know I will use it often to create masculine cards. It is stamped on watercolor paper and colored with inks (buckaroo blue, bravo burgundy, going grey). I used Crystal Effects on the back window as well as the side mirrors to mimic the look of glass. The edges were sponged with Antique Linen Distress ink. Are you wondering about the sentiment?? Studio G dollar stamps! It was part of a 4th of July pack I got at AC Moore. The clear stamp made it easy peasy to center. Oh the possibilities for the back of this truck. My red, white and blue color scheme makes it patriotic and appropriate for the holiday but I also thought it could go to a young man getting his drivers license or first car or even to someone setting out on a new journey with nothing but open road ahead of them. I bought several different patterned papers to make this card and in the end I didn't use any of them. Instead I wanted to create some texture and depth. I rubbed some buckaroo blue and bravo burgundy ink onto the paisley Cuttlebug folder and embossed some vanilla card stock. After cutting my squares to size, I rubbed more ink onto the embossing and on all the edges. I was thinking bandanas, did it work??

For the inside of my card I used Cornish Heritage Farms lined paper backgrounder. I stamped it onto vanilla so it will make the writing easier to read. I used a leftover strip of the burgundy embossed piece to look like the top of a notepad. It is hard to see, but the corner accents on the front of the card also used a CHF backgrounder. I used the Weave BG on ruby red with burgundy ink. I love how that backgrounder simulates textured cardstock and gives visual interest.

Since this is probably going to go to a guy, I didn't want to make my envelope too over the top. I embossed just the flap and rubbed it with buckaroo blue ink giving you just a sneak peek at what is to come inside.

I hope you will stop by the gallery at SCS today and see what the other DD gals created for the challenge.

What a great card! I have never heard of rubbing ink on your embossing folder then running the card stock thru. Does the ink come off of the folder pretty easily or does it stain? I love this idea and would like to try it. Thanks for sharing. :-)

This is so creative and absolutely wonderful! I especially love the use of the backgrounder for the inside. What a great idea! You inspire me to buy this stamp for just this purpose. Love this!
