3-D Butterflies

I got an unexpected day off from watching kids yesterday so I headed up to my LSS to get some items I needed. I spent a whole hour looking around. It's not a very big place but there are tons of stamps and other items to drool over!! I am always captivated by this section of stamps that are designed to be layered several times, looking like a 3-D patchwork quilt in the end. As much as I like the samples I don't think I am up for the cutting and the stamps do not seem to work in any other fashion. Well...this stamp by The Artful Stamper sucked me in. It is one large stamp and I liked that I could do the embossing/layering but it also seems good for regular stamping and watercoloring. Isn't it a stunner??!!! I had to come right home and make a layered card before I forgot what the sample looked like.
The entire image is stamped onto black and embossed in gold. Then I dug out several scraps of gold, elegant eggplant, rose red and mellow moss and gold embossed the butterflies and leaves several more times. I added a bit of always artichoke to the leaves for depth and then set about cutting out the pieces and layering them with dimensionals. I then put a little bit of Stardust Stickles on a plate and used a very small paint brush to add some glitter to various parts. The entire black panel is edged with a gold Krylon leafing pen and mounted to a mellow moss card. The sentiment is from the SU hostess set, Warmest Regards. I may never give this one away, I just love the look of the embossing, the dimension, the glitter. I like that I can use up scraps too so I will set out to try this in other colors and then I want to see the whole image done in watercolor. Stay tuned for those another day.
Here is a side view so you can get a feel for the dimension.

My sister had a picture of this same card. But, she's in Victoria, BC and she took the picture of a card in her LSS. Looks to me like it's identical. Absolutely gorgeous card. I love all the detail and embossing!
