ATC Box Tutorial

Last week I posted this red chintz box that fits ATC cards. The box itself measures 3 3/4" tall, 2 3/4" wide and 1" deep. It would make a cute Valentine's candy box as well, so don't get hung up on the ATC part of my title.

I have put together another box to show you the dimensions. This time I made a few changes to my box so you can the possibilities. I added a ribbon handle and the closure is Basic Grey magnets.

Start with a piece of cardstock that measures 11" by 4 3/4".

Score the 11" side at 3 3/4", 4 3/4", 8 1/2" and 9 9/16 (just a smidge past 9 1/2)

Score the 4 3/4" side at 1" and 3 3/4" (1" from either side).

Cut the box as shown above. Cutting slight pieces away from those center tabs will make folding your box easier when you assemble it.

Stamp the outside as desired.

I wanted the inside of my box to have a bit of a cut out so I used part of a punch to remove a piece.

Below is a picture of how it should look when all the score lines are folded. You can see how the box will come together now.

Add a strong adhesive, like red-liner tape, to the sides indicated by the arrow above. This will keep your seams towards the back of your box. Assemble the box.

To reinforce the front flap, I cut a second piece of cardstock slightly longer than the flap, used a border punch on it and then adhered it to the underside of the front flap.

I used 2 Basic Grey magnets for my closures. I find that the magnets are so strong that often times the adhesive that comes on them does not stick well enough. I added a small dab of Glossy Accents to my magnets to ensure they stay where I want them.

Just to be different, I added a felt flower to the front. For the ribbon, I punched a 1/8" hole on either side of the box, fed through some 1/4" grosgrain ribbon and tied a knot in each end of the ribbon.

If you wanted these to go even faster, use some heavy weight pattern paper. Double sided would be even better!
